## Methodology

Every row is a verbatim sentence read from the named source's own page through our fetch service on the date shown, hash-pinned to the stored read (the sha of the page's visible text; the raw page is mirrored to R2). 16 of the 36 named sources that could be read published a usable figure; 20 published none and are recorded as not published, never filled in; 4 could not be read (blocked, dead or unreachable) and count nowhere. The headline figures (median, minimum, maximum, quartiles) are over ONE figure per source in % (a source's median where its page yielded several accepted sentences), so N counts sources, never sentences; 283 candidate sentence(s) were refused by a reviewer with the reason recorded. The fuller derivation this dataset is chartered to grow into (not yet what the figures above are; they are each source's own published figure as read): Across every UK provider that sells a card machine to a business: the printed in-person transaction rate, the printed monthly fee and the printed hardware price, each quoted verbatim from that provider's OWN UK page with the retrieval date - and, beside them, the number nobody publishes: the PUBLICATION RATE, the share of the UK shelf that prints a price at all. Measured on the 24 providers read for this charter on 2026-09-10, 14 printed a comparable in-person rate (SumUp, Zettle, Square, Paymentsense, Shopify, myPOS, Teya, Tide, Viva, Lopay, Elavon, Stripe, Tyl by NatWest, Adyen), one printed an introductory monthly fee and no rate at all (Barclaycard: '£0 monthly service fee for 12 months. Then £18 + VAT'), five published nothing a buyer can compare (takepayments, Lloyds Cardnet, UTP Group, Nexi, and Worldpay, whose UK pricing URL no longer resolves to a pricing page), and four refused the read outright (Dojo, Revolut Business, Global Payments, Handepay). Measuring who will tell a buyer before selling to them, across the whole shelf and over time, is the part that is ours; the individual rates stay the providers'.
